Native American History for Kids - Earth Homes

Some Plains people were not hunters and gatherers. They were farmers. They lived in villages. They built round earth lodges with materials they found. These were huge things. Some were 40 feet in diameter and about 15 feet high. They were warm in the winter and cool in the summer. These were not temperary homes. They were fixed structures.

The Plateau people were hunters and gatherers. They had three homes. They lived in a pit home in the winter, a breezy home im the summer, and a temporary home they dragged with them as they hunted and gathered.
