Ojibwa Religion

Spirits:
The Ojibwa believed that little spirits controlled everything. There was a spirit that controlled your health, one for rain, one for thunder, one for the corn, one for everything. They prayed and gave thanks to their spirits every day.

Mifreiein (Grand Medicine): Medicine was anything that made people feel better. The Medicine Man sang songs that were prayers. This was medicine. The songs made people feel better.

Ojibwa Herbal Medicine: Summer was a great time to gather herbs to make medicines. Some medicines were secret, known only to the medicine men. Most were common remedies that every mother gave her children as needed. The Ojibwa probably knew more about herbal medicine than any other people.

Dream Catchers: Dream catchers were designed to "catch" evil spirits, tangle them up, before they could enter your dreams. They were made with an open weave so the good dreams could get through. As other tribes heard about the Ojibwa dream catchers, they adopted the idea. Today, many Native American artists make beautiful dream catchers to keep themselves and their families safe.
